A recipient of the Outstanding Arts Teacher Award from the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, Cheng has been widely recognised for her achievements in music education and promotion.
Cheng received her Diploma in Music Studies from Ueno Gakuen University in Japan, majoring in vocal and minor in piano. She graduated with a Master of Arts in Music at Hong Kong Baptist University, and was awarded the Scholastic Award.
She was the music head of Diocesan Girls’ Junior School for 7 years till 1993, and the music head of Methodist School for over 20 years, leading the school choirs to receive multiple awards and accolades at the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival (HKSMSA) and Hong Kong Inter-school Festival, and to perform at Music Festivals in Japan.
Currently, she is the conductor of Kowloon Tong School (Primary Section) choirs. Her choirs got a total of four placed awards in the 78th HKSMSA competitions. She also led her choir to obtain a Gold Award in the Young Children Championship at the Malaysia Choral Eisteddfod.
Cheng served as an adjudicator for the ensemble contest at Karuizawa International Choral Festival 2015 and also served as the host of ceremonies at Tokyo International Choir Competition and World Choral Championship since 2018.
In 2017, Cheng founded Ko Chorus and was dedicated to promoting choral works from Japan. The choir competed at Tokyo International Choir Competition 2024 and received the GOLD PRIZE, 2nd Place in Folklore Music Category and the “Audience Award”.
She also plays an active role as a music selection sub-committee member of the Hong Kong Schools Music and Speech Association since 1993. She is also a member of Asian Choral Association (ACA) and served as the moderator and translator for the ACA Symposium at the Yokohama International Choral Festival.
